Senior Mechanical Engineer Technician (Norfolk, VA)

Abbott On Call is looking for intelligent, driven, and energetic engineers for open positions in Norfolk, VA. Our Systems Engineering firm is a leader in engineering, modular ship design, development, test and validation, and interface verification and validation.

Applicants must have the following:

• Bachelor’s level degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering

This technician performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects, or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, performs recurring work independently. Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
a. Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions;
b. Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
c. Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data;
d. Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
e. Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications, and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Junior Program Analyst (Norfolk, VA)

Applicants must have the following:

• Bachelor’s level degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering

Collect, review, and analyze information to make recommendations to the Government.

Define the nature and extent of problems. Analyze relevant data, which may include annual revenues, employment, or expenditures. Interview managers and employees while observing their operations. Develop solutions to problems. While preparing recommendations, understand the nature of the organization, the relationship it has with others in the Government, and its internal organization and culture. Prepare and solve mathematical models.

Report findings and recommendations to the Government. Reports are usually submitted in writing, but oral presentations regarding findings are also common. For some projects, management analysts are retained to help implement the suggestions they have made.

Electrical and electronics engineers work closely with computers.

Electrical and electronics engineers specialize in different areas such as power generation, transmission, distribution, communications, and electrical equipment manufacturing. Mechanical engineers research, develop, design, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. They work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. They also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing.

Mechanical engineers also design tools that other engineers need for their work. Mechanical engineers rely on computers to assist them in efficiently performing computations, and by permitting the modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are used for design data processing and for turning the design into a product.

• Bachelor’s level degree in Mechanical Engineering

This technician performs simple routine tasks under close supervision or from detailed procedures. Their work is checked in progress or on completion. This person performs one or a combination of such typical duties as:

1. Assembling or installing equipment or parts requiring simple wiring, soldering, or connecting. b. Performing simple or routine tasks or tests such as tensile or hardness tests; operating and adjusting simple test equipment; recording test data.

2. Gathering and maintaining specified records of engineering data such as tests, drawings, etc.; performing computations by substituting numbers in specified formulas; plotting data and draws simple curves and graphs.

Full-time Position – Mechanical / Systems Engineer (Tysons, VA next to Metro – Silver Line)

Abbott On Call is looking for intelligent, driven, energetic Engineers (Mechanical, Electrical, Marine, or Systems) for positions that need to be filled immediately. Our Systems Engineering firm is a leader in modular ship design, development, test and validation, and interface verification and validation.

Applicants must have:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or higher.

• Experience interpreting drawings, technical specifications, and developing test procedures.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and attention to detail.

• Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interface and work cooperatively with project teams and clients.

• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access) and other similar engineering software applications.

• U.S. CITIZENSHIP with the ability to obtain/maintain a security clearance. Some travel may be required to provide on-site engineering and waterfront support during ship availabilities.

Prior experience with Ship Change Documents (SCDs), Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) Certifications, Mine Countermeasures (MCM), and other Navy Data Environment (NDE) applications is a plus.
